Discipline is a Superpower - 5 Tips to Build Consistency

Do you struggle with staying committed in your movement routine? Do you get in the groove for awhile & then something comes up that derails your progress? You're not alone - this is often one of the biggest struggles I hear from women & research suggests that "getting busy" is the top reason people fall off of their workout schedule. So how do we build movement in to our lives & "busy-proof" it? Since life rarely offers the perfect set of conditions we believe we need in order to show up for ourselves, let's talk about discipline because well, it's a superpower.

Building consistency in your fitness routine is essential for making progress in strength, change in body composition & for achieving long-term health and wellness goals. Consistency with workouts also had endless benefits to enhance our overall mindset. As a trainer who embarked on my own journey almost a decade ago (& stuck with it) I'm sharing my top five tips to help you stay on track:

1. Choose a Time

Select a specific time each day for your workouts, and treat it like an important appointment. This helps create a habit and makes it easier to stick to your routine. By choosing a time slot in your day, you have mentally reserved it & carved out the space for it instead of leaving it until "when you can fit it in" because chances are, you won't.

2. Set Realistic Goals

Establish achievable and measurable fitness goals, given your season of life. If life is busy, are you actually able to carve out time to go to the gym 3-5x per week? What if you had a structured fitness program like Namastay Sweaty Club that you could do from a small space in your own home (or take with you anywhere), that delivers an effective & efficient workout within 30 minutes? 30 minutes is 2% of your day.

3. Follow a Schedule

Following a structure & consistent workout plan that suits your schedule can be really helpful for you to stay on track because you know what to expect each week. Plan your workouts for the week ahead or follow Namastay Sweaty Club's structured weekly program which offers a well balanced, structured program that targets specific muscle groups multiple times per week & is specifically designed to optimize body composition by building muscle & burning fat.

4. Join a Fitness Community

Joining a fitness community can provide empowerment, inspiration, motivation & accountability. Writing down or sharing your goals with someone else can help keep you committed. Research also suggests that taking a post workout sweaty selfie can support you in your drive to continue showing up (& if you do, be sure to tag us @namastaysweatyclub!)

5. Celebrate Your Progress

Track your progress (my personal favourite is monthly progress photos!) by focusing on the efforts (how many classes did you complete each week, how are you feeling in your body, pausing to be proud when you showed up when you were tired, busy or stressed) and celebrate your achievements, no matter how small. Recognizing your improvements can boost your motivation and reinforce your commitment to your fitness routine.

Align your actions with your goals, not your mood. Remember, you never regret a sweat & on my hardest days - I remember how I want to feel & showing up for a 30 minute sweat is almost guaranteed to get me there.

I would love to support you building consistency - join Namastay Sweaty Club for a FREE 7 day trial where fitness is a daily practice.
